Using Web Express to make a Web Site

2. Changing the Size of Pictures :

1. Click on the picture - A red line will appear around the picture.

2. Put the cursor on the edge of the picture and drag to make smaller or larger.

3. Save - (click on the blue disk icon)

1. Adding Pictures :

1. Click on your page where you want the picture to go.

2. Click on the blue, square box at the top.

3. Click File and search to find where you saved the image.

4. When you find the file picture, click OK..... and OK to copy it to your Website.

3. Making a Picture a Link :

1. Click on the picture - A red line will appear around the picture.

2. Click on the link image at the top.

3. You have three choices - Local Page (your own pages you have made)

WWW URL ( a page already on the Net) or Email ( an email address)

4. If you are linking to a new page in your web site... click on Local Page and type in a new page name, then OK.

5. If you are linking to a website on the Net, click on WWW and type in the address starting with http://www..................... and then click OK.

6. If you are linking to an email address, click on Email address and type in the email address, then click OK.

7. If you want to check the link, Click on Preview and run your cursor over the link. You should see where it is linked to.

4. Changing the Background of your Web page:

1. Right click on the page.

2. Click on Web Page Properties.

3. To change the color of the Background... choose Color and find a color from the drop down list. If you want to make your own color, scroll down to Define Colors and make and name your own color to use.

4. To picture a Background picture on your page, choose Background.... then Picture. Find the picture in the File box. Click OK.

5. Changing the Size of Tables:

1. There are two ways.

2. First way - Put your cursor over the table line, until you see an arrow.

3. Drag the table to make it smaller or larger.

4. Second way - Right click inside the table.

5. Click Table Properties

6.Choose Width Options and change the size using Numbers. (The average web site has a table of 650 pixels.)

7. Click OK.

6. Changing the Font:

1. After you have typed something, drag the cursor of the words.

2. Use the drop down boxes at the top to change the font.

3. You can also change the size, color and make your writing bold, italic and underlined the same way.

7. Making a Link to a page you have made/ or will make :

1. Drag the cursor over the picture or words you want linked.

2. Click on the Link icon at the top. (looks like a chain)

3. Choose Local Page if you are making a new page and type in the new page.

4. Choose WWW, if you are linking to a website.

5. Choose Email address if you are linking to an email address.

6. Click OK.

8. Making a Link to a page on the www.

1. Drag the cursor over the picture or words you want linked.

2. Click on the Link icon at the top. (looks like a chain)

3. Choose WWW, if you are linking to a website.

9. Making a Link to an Email address:

1. Drag the cursor over the picture or words you want linked.

2. Click on the Link icon at the top. (looks like a chain)

3. Choose Email address if you are linking to an email address.

4. Click OK.

10. Adding a Table:

1.At the top. click Table.

2. Click Insert.

3. Type in how many columns and rows you want in the Table.

4. Click OK.

11.Changing the Color of a Table:

1. Right click the Table.

2. Choose Cell Properties.

3. Choose Cell Shade and using the drop down list, choose the color you want.

4. Click OK.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN INDEX PAGE, please follow the instructions to start a new website (opposite>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>) All website pages must begin with an Index page. OR If you already have a page made and want to change it to your INDEX page. Right click the yellow page on the left (the name of your page) and click RENAME. Type in index.htm

Then you can begin to add other pages. You MUST have a page called index.htm before you can add other pages.

12.Adding a New Page:

1. To add a new page, click on index.htm ONCE in the left hand column) and the browser at the top will change. The third icon at the top - a yellow page - will say add page when you run your cursor over it.

2. Type in the File Name..... whatever you want to call your page.

3. A white broken page icon will appear on the left hand side.

4. Double click on this white broken page.

5. A box will appear. The box will say that this does not exist, do you wish to create it? Click yes.

7. Your new web page (on the left hand side) will appear yellow and now you can work on your next page.

The left side of the screen is the Web Site Manager, a project view of all the components (web pages, graphics, links, etc.) that make up your site. The right side of the screen is where you create, design and edit web pages.

13. Starting a New Web Site:

1. Click on File and then New Web Site

2. After Welcome... choose Create a new site from scratch

3. Keep clicking and putting in ONLY the information you know. (some things you won't know, but don't worry about that... just keep clicking Next)

4. Name your site... you can use your name for this or something you will remember. Click Finish.

5. On the left hand side you will see a small broken page picture, called index.htm. This is the fist page of your site.

6. Double click index.htm and a box will appear. The box will say that this does not exist, do you wish to create it? Click yes.

7. Your new web site index.htm will appear yellow and now you can work on your first page.

8. When you start working on your site the next day... just Click File, then Open and choose the name of your website.

9. Click OK.
