6th Grade Social Studies Chapter 8 – Ancient India You will produce an Indian Culture Box. It will include: *1. A Map of India, including mountains, deserts, cities and rivers. (Page 223) 2. A Weather Report on tape. Include different regions and climate. (224) 3. 3 Objects from the Indus Valley. (223 – 228) *4. A Front page Newspaper Report about the arrivals of the Aryans. Include – 1. Where they came from. 2. Beliefs and religion. 3. Social classes. *5. Make 8 Objects that describe the IMPORTANT beliefs of Buddhism. Include an explanation of each object. 6. Write a Mini-Dictionary with meanings of the following words: subcontinent, silt, Aryan, migration, caste, Hinduism, guild, epic. 7. Write a Diary entry about the life of Asoka. *8. Write a T.V. script between a News Reporter and a Hindu. Include questions and answers about – 1. Caste and Duty, 2. Reincarnation, 3. Karma, 4. Life’s 4 stages, 5. Guru and Pupil relationship, 6. Beliefs. 9. Make a List of the important accomplishments of the Gupta Empire. 10. Write a Survey for the Team members. The Survey will ask what 5 important facts each member learned during this Unit of Work. Instructions: The Indian Culture Box needs to be decorated with an Indian theme. There are 4 Compulsory Activities, indicated by * These MUST be completed. Your Team may choose 4 other Activities to include in the Culture Box. A TOTAL of 8 Objects need to be placed in the Culture Box. You will work with up to 4 people in a Team. Each person will have a role to play and information to research. Each Team will have a Leader who will ensure that your Team is on task. The Leader will record an ‘On Task’ number each day. (10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest rating) The Culture Box needs to include all names of the Team members and Grade level. The Culture Box is due 2 weeks after receiving this Project sheet. All information can be found in Chapter 8, Ancient India, Social Studies text book. Information may also be obtained on the Internet, but must be put into your own words. ‘Cut and Paste’ will not be accepted in any Activities.
