the Book, the parents assist the child in decoding words. After a few
readings, the child may then feel confident in reading the book,
without assistance. This is a great achievement and is to be praised!!
Tips :
1.
When reading, ask the child to find a particular word on the page.
2.
Ask Comprehension Questions - What happened to Dan the Van man? Was
the tin red?
3.
Use flashcards to match words in the Book
4.
Encourage your child to copy simple sentences from the book and illustrate.
5.
Using a Tape recorder, to record your child reading the Book
6.
To avoid memorizing the text, point to each word when reading.
7. Most
importantly - Reading
is a wonderful adventure. It is fun to explore words and pictures.
Make Reading time an enjoyable and comfortable time together!
