Reading Groups

The use of Reading Groups in the Elementary Classroom, ensures all students are given opportunities to develop reading skills in all areas. Students rotate the activities each day, enabling the teacher to provide one to one instruction to a group of students each day.

Comprehension : Students read a text, either in Text Book or worksheet and complete a Comprehension activity in writing.

SQUIRT : Students read individually with reading material, approved by the teacher. At the completion of the reading time, students, complete a

Reading Log.

 Super Quiet Uninterrupted Reading Time.

Reading Conference : Students' reading is monitored by the teacher. Each student reads aloud to the teacher and notes of reading ability and development are recorded in Teacher's Reading Journal.

 Cloze Exercises : Students complete a 'Cloze' activity individually. This is graded by the teacher at the end of the lesson.
