The Role of a Librarian

My Professional Role as Teacher Librarian

1. I have a professional involvement in the learning and teaching program of the school by collaborating with teachers in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation.

2. I will initiate and cooperate in programs to ensure that students become discerning users of information to enable them to achieve the learning outcomes specified in the school's education programs.

3. I have a key role in the school's information technology program.

4. I will provide experiences to encourage reading.

5. I develop organize and manage information resources which meet the educational, cultural and recreational needs of students and the professional needs of teachers.

6. I will facilitate access to external sources of information.

7. I will be responsible for all library management, including:

(a) devising and implementing systems for efficient library operation to ensure optimum user access to information resources;

(b)preparing and administering the library budget;

(c) training and supervising library staff'

(d) evaluating and reporting on library programs.

I will facilitate the provision of learning programs that will equip students with the skills necessary to succeed in a constantly changing social and economic environment. Through resource-based programs, students acquire the skills to collect, analyze and organize information, problem-solve and communicate their understandings.
