The Student with Visual Processing Weaknesses |
Identify the student who has difficulty copying assignments or information from the board or reading information from the board or a book.
When copying, the student may have short term, visual memory weaknesses, difficulty integrating a kinesthetic-motor response, weak visual discrimination and weak visual tracking skills.
1. PROBLEM
Student copies information incorrectly, has difficulty deciphering the information, may appear to give up or may be unable to complete copying task within allotted time period.
SOLUTION
Keep visual fields uncluttered. (especially your front board area)
Erase old information from the board
Write clearly with good sized script
Provide information on a sheet of paper for the student who has difficulty copying accurately.
Allow time to copy, accept reversals etc.,
2. PROBLEM
Student has difficulty reading, lacks short term visual memory sight words, has difficulty with visual perception and discrimination
SOLUTION
Give student ample time to read or copy material
Allow students to use tapes for lengthy assignments
Teach phonics and decoding skills
Enlarge text on a copier machine
