Internet Educator of the Month Award.
The Internet Educator of the Month - May 2001
Georgia B. Cloer Gigglepotz.com is pleased to announce Georgia Cloer as the winner of the Internet Educator Award for May, 2001. Georgia is a 1st Grade teacher at Mitchell Road Elementary School, South Carolina, USA. Visit her class website. Georgia has used the Internet in several ways that have been meaningful in her first grade classroom. The most significant is the design and implementation of a class webpage to communicate with family and friends about the progress the students in her class are making. They check our e-mail daily after lunch to see who has messages. Parents, grandparents, friends and other classrooms communicate with this class. Students are learning keyboarding skills as they respond to their e-mail. " We are part of several Internet-based projects. Postcard Geography is one in which we have created our own class postcard with a digital camera and the computer/printer . We printed the cards and mailed them to about 300 classes around the world. We have received over 200 postcards in return. We are part of a First Grade Monthly Newsletter Exchange. We exchange newsletters on set topics with eight classes around the world. We have found out that most first grades learn about the same things. We are also part of a Tooth Tally Project. Our group in this project exchanges information about the number of teeth we pull each month during February, March, and April. We use Graph Club software to keep track of how each member class in our group is doing. Our class webpage also keeps track of this for the students to access. We have taken virtual field trips to Japan, checked the daily weather, checked how the groundhog was doing with his shadow, and investigated many sites dealing with rocks and minerals. We visit sites about authors Dr. Seuss, Jan Brett, and Eric Carle. Students and parents are encouraged to communicate through e-mail. Using the Internet is just one of the ways I use to meet the individual needs of my students and their parents It is an integral component. It is one that adds in so many dimensions. Congratulations to Georgia Cloer - Internet Educator of the Month, May, 2001. Nominations for the Internet Educator Award are now being received for January, 2002. Read how to apply.
