ESL VOCABULARY GAMES

Teach everyone these vocabulary games. When all work is done then a designated student

can quietly take student to a table or corner to work on words. Select a set of words to use

each week.

 

**WHAT'S MISSING?

Lay cards face up. Student closes his eyes. Friend removes 1-3cards and then says, "What's Missing?". The student says which cards are gone.

 

**CONCENTRATION

Classic game which requires two sets of cards. Lay the cards face down. Turn two over at a time. Student must say the words. If the cards match a pair is made. Winner has the most pairs

.

**MEMORY Place cards face down in a stack. Turn the top card over and say the word. Place it face down. Turn over the next card on the stack say the word and the word of the previous card.

Place the second card beside the first one. Continue as long as student can ask: Which is the third card?Which is the fifth card? Which is the one before the third card?

**BINGO Have student place pictures on a Bingo card. Turn pictures over when called.

**SHAKE 'EM UP! Use an egg carton. Glue a picture inside each egg section. Put three beans in the carton, close the lid, and shake. If the student can name the picture he keeps the beans. Keep score daily and compare.
