Haunting Halloween Ideas

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and while students may be primarily focused on dressing up and trick or treating, teachers can bring the Halloween fun into the classroom.

Spelling: Spelling assignments can be a real treat if you make it fun during Halloween. Create a spelling worksheet with lots of colorful Halloween pictures to grab your students' attention. Get your students to match Halloween words with the correct pictures; Use crossword puzzles that spell out Halloween related words; Or create worksheets where your students need to fill in the missing letters of the Halloween words. Halloweenis also a great time for students to learn new words in other languages - this makes learning much more fun and exciting.

Math: Math doesn't have to be a haunting experience during Halloween! Get your students interested in counting and sorting by creating worksheets full of Halloween candies. Students can color in the candies and count thedifferent treats out, which improves their math skills as well as helping them to sort and categorize.
Teachers can also make worksheets with fun addition and subtraction questions:
Eg: "Jane collected thirty pieces of candy on Halloween. Her friend, Andrew got twenty pieces and their friend Lisa got twenty-two. How much candy does this equal? How much more candy than Andrew did Jane get?"
Halloween math questions can come in the form of multiplication and division too!

Art: Unlock the creative spirits in your classroom by getting your students to make amazing Halloween crafts! If pumpkin carving sounds like too much of a mess, try making papier-mache pumpkins instead. Your students will enjoy this task, and they'll have a pumpkin that lasts longer than a real one! You might also suggest making ghosts and spiders this way, and hang them around the classroom for a great Halloween atmosphere.
Students might also be interested in creating a spooky skeleton made out of dried pasta. This is a very simple craft project, which only calls for black paper, dried pasta, and glue!
The possibilities are endless when it comes to getting creative around Halloween time.

Halloween-related activities are a great way to get your pupils interested in learning. And there are so many resources on the internet to help teachers design creative activities that every class will love.

Happy Halloween, Ghouls and Goblins!
