George Vanier Public School is located in Lively, Ontario, Canada. Lively is a small town West of Sudbury (the nickel capital of the world). I have a split French Immersion class (grade 7 and 8) with 21 students in total. English is their first language, but they've been immersed in the French language since kindergarten by taking certain subjects in French. We are interested in exchanging snail mail on a regular basis - maybe even some cassettes and video tapes as well.

We are close to the most southerly point in all of Canada, nestled among the Great Lakes and about three hours from Toronto. Our school is in a middle income neighbourhood of mostly single family dwellings with some apartments. We have classes in Junior Kindergarten through grade 8 in both English and French Immersion. My class is English and the students are between 11 and 13 years of age. We would like to share with an Australian class to learn more about your culture and country.

Our school has about 700 students in grades Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight. Our classroom has 28 students. We start school on September 5th. We will be studying the Olympics and Australia for the month of September and we would find it interesting to be connected with a class from Australia so that we can find out about how our countries are the same and how they are different. We would like to continue to email for the whole school year, not just during the Olympics.

In my grade 5/6 class I have 17 kids. I teach Language Arts and Science to this particular class. I also teach Food studies to the junior high students and in one of the modules there was an activity where the students had to find a restaurant specializing in international foods. They were to observe the menu, table setting, table appointments and service provided. I realize that this particular objective might not be achieved through the internet however we cetainly would be able to communicate through this program. In this class I have 21 students. Whatever is set up so my students could interact with other students from another country would be very exciting.

The children live in a small,rural setting where logging and farming are the major jobs. We live approximately 2 hrs by car from a large city. The students in my class mainly come from a very small nearby town called Beaverdell and must spend about 2hrs each day commuting to and from school by bus.
