Dear Ms Jacoby and children
How are you all? We hope you are doing very well.
It has been a very busy two weeks for us at school. We have been going swimming everyday and have seen some of our Olympic heroes at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
We hope you have been enjoying hearing about the 'Adventures of Uncle Sam and TY'?
We are working on a small project about Australian animals are almost ready to send it to you.
Our furry little friends have finally arrived from Sydney and are on their way to you. We hope you like the gifts we have sent.
The parcel we have sent you has the following items in it:
1. Australian flag
2. Gold Kangaroo stick pins (1 for each child, Ms Jacoby and your principal)

3. Three Olympic Mascots (Millie, Olly and Syd)
4. The Paralympics Mascot (Lizzy)
5. A set of Australian coins (real money)
6. Australian tea

7. A jar of Vegemite (my favourite toast spread)
8. Hand drawn print of our fabulous city (Melbourne)
9. 3 Australian story books
* "Home of the Kadimakara People" - An aboriginal tale
* "Wombat Stew" - We don't really eat wombats!
* "My Grandma Lived in Gooligulch" - Graeme Base's first book
10. Oh yeah! and some good ol' Aussie Lamingtons.
We thought you might like to try some Aussie food. You could make some tea and vegemite toast for breakfast or maybe have some tea and lamingtons for afternoon tea. Perhaps your principal might join you?
The poster map I have sent was my one from home, I couldn't find one in the poster shop so I thought I would send you mine. That way you could at least have a look at our city with this map.
If you look at grid reference Z7 you will find an amusement park (Luna Park). It is a very famous part of St. Kilda and is right on the beach. Our school is very near there. We could walk to Luna Park in about 15 minutes.
If you look at grid reference A12 you will find our Zoo. I live very near the Zoo. But a long way from school.
L1 is our most famous bridge called the Westgate Bridge. It has an interesting and sad history.
The bay you can see at the bottom of the picture is where many us of spend a lot of our summer. This is St. Kilda beach. It is very popular with tourists. See if you can find the famous Acland Street. People all over Melbourne and the world go to Acland Street to eat (mostly cakes).
Look for the lake at grid reference V12. This is Albert Park Lake. This is where the Grand Prix is held each year. We can hear the cars from our school. Sometimes we have to stop talking because the noise is so loud the children can't hear what we are saying.
Have a look at the other side of the map, grid reference K21. This is where the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and other sporting facilities are located. This area is where the Olympic Soccer was held. The are a lot of new facilities but they are not on this map.
At X1 you can see the ship called the Abel Tasman. This is the ferry ship that travels to Tasmania from Melbourne. It is named after the man who discovered Tasmania.
There are many interesting and historical sites in the map. We hope you enjoy investigating our city.
Hopefully our gifts will arrive at your school very soon and you can start taking our furry friends on your own adventures. We are looking forward to hearing about the wonderful things they see and do.
All the best from your friends Down Under
Kind regards from Miss Hetherington and children
PS: I will send you a picture of the items on their way to you.
