Potato People

A couple of weeks ago we read the story by Pamela Allen called "The Potato People"

We all brought potatoes to school and made our own potato people.

Just like those in the story ours are starting to grow horns!

Dear Mrs. Coats and our American Friends,

Thank you so much for your letter today. This afternoon we sat together to discuss things that we wanted to put in our next letter so that Mrs. Jamieson could type it for us at home. We think it would be fun to have snow in our town but we did not think it would be fun to have to make up snow days at the end of the year. Are you allowed to make snowmen at play time and are you allowed to have snowball fights? We have a rule that talks about throwing inappropriate things and we think it might be the same for you.

Our weather is cooler today but it will be hot again by the weekend. Tomorrow the year 2's will be swimming and you can see our photos up above.

Weather in Wisconsin! Is it fall or spring?

What is Clean-up Day in Australia?

We do not have a gym but rather an activity room. It is where we can have gym if the weather is hot or rainy and it is where our assemblies are held or where we go to watch videos or TV programmes. All of our school can fit in but it is a little squeezy!

We do not have a music room or a specialist music teacher. We have music with our own teachers. A few of the students learn musical instruments with private teachers who come to the school each week.

Our specialist teachers are our Phys. Ed teacher and our German teacher. We have 2 German lessons per week and one with the P.E. teacher. All children from year 2 to 7 learn German at our school.

We have six lessons per day and they are all 50 minutes long.We have a recess break for 20 minutes and a lunch break of 40 minutes. We all have to bring lunches from home as there in no canteen. Some mothers do special lunch days as a treat and we have about 4 per term of those.

Do you have a student representative council at your school? We do and this week those that want to be SRC reps have had to make posters and tomorrow we have to tell the people in our class why they should vote for us and then Friday we have a secret ballot to vote for 1 boy and 1 girl from each class in the school. We will let you know who our winners are.

We have 4 terms with 11 weeks term 1, 10 weeks in term 2 & 3, and 9 weeks in term 4.If you add all of that it would be 200 days. We do have about 6 public holidays during the year bringing back our days at school to 196. We generally work about 3 weeks longer than you.....poor us, lucky you.
