Social Studies Project

The Missions

Students are required to build a model of a California Mission.

The Mission may be ONE of the following:

1. San Francisco Solano
   

2. San Rafael
   
3. San Jose
   
4. Santa Cruz
   
5. San Juan Bautista
   
6. San Carlos Borromeo
   
7. Soledad
   
8. San Antonio
   
9. San Miguel
   
10. San Luis Obispo
    
11. La Purisima
    
12. Santa Ynez
    
13. Santa Barbara
    
14. San Buenaventura
    
15. San Fernando Rey
    
16. San Gabriel
    
17. San Juan Capistrano
    
18. San Luis Rey
    
19. San Diego
    
20. Santa Clara

Students may work in groups of up to six people OR students may work alone.

For groups of FOUR – SIX students, a Parent Permission Slip is required. (see below)

The Model:

The Missions Model needs to include the architecture of the day, including any symbols, for example crosses, bells that it may have. The Model must also include the surrounding area, for example the stypes of trees, mountains etc.,

Some of the materials which may be used to make the Model are:

• Popsicle sticks / lego / Thick Poster Board / Toothpicks / Styrofoam / Shoe boxes / wood
  

• Students are encouraged to work co operatively on the Project, but must seek assistance from parents / adult if required for safety reasons.

The attached Planning Sheet MUST be passed up, before any work is started on the Mission.

This Planning Sheet is due : Monday 4^th December, 2000.

The Mission Model is due : Tuesday 16^th, January, 2001.
