Aid: Eric Moussambani donates his only pair of goggles
Eric
Moussambani, the men's 100m freestyle swimmer from Equatorial
Guinea, proved on Tuesday in his first swim in a 50m pool that the
Olympic Games are not just about winning. His
only goggles are to be sold online through www.olympicaid.com.
Other items currently up for auction include the race singlet of
Australian Triathlete Miles Stewart.
To
celebrate 100 years of women in The Olympic Games, the first Arab
women from the Arabian Gulf to enter a team have also donated
memorabilia to Olympic Aid. The Bahrainian women want to help other

Spotlight: David Douillet (France)
Jean-Luc
Rouge, France's first world champion, discovered David Douillet when
he was eight years old and standing 15 centimetres (six inches)
taller than his peers at a training session. By age 24, Douillet had
won the world championship. He is undefeated at heavyweight since
then, and now, at 31, is both world
heavyweight and world open-weight champion in judo, the first
westerner ever to own both titles. |

Athlete
Spotlight: Sheila Douty (USA)
There
are statistics, and then there is simply the respect of your
opponents. Sheila Douty ranks high in the first category, possibly
even higher in the second. Opponents consider her the clutch player
who gets the big hits and drives in the big runs for the Olympic
champion United States. Now 38, the
powerful softball first baseman returns to the Games with
nothing changed but her name. |
