Oh no! This was bad news! Santa read the letter over and over to make sure he understood what it said. No Rudolph to help guide his sleigh? He began to think and think of ways to get the toys out to the children. There were only 13 days left!
Santa went to look at his big world map and thought about the children all over the world. "I know," said Santa, "I'll ask some kids what to do." He closed his eyes and picked a place on the map. It was New Jersey, where sometimes it snows so much that it's higher than the kid's noses! He would fly to New Jersey and ask the kids there what he should do. He visited a kindergarten class and got some good ideas. The children thought that maybe Santa could use a car to deliver the gifts, but that wouldn't be fast enough. They thought the other reindeer would do fine without Rudolph, but Santa said if it was foggy the other reindeer might fly right into the moon!
Finally, they told Santa to use an airplane and drop the gifts down the chimneys with parachutes. So that's what Santa planned to do! But like plans sometimes do, that didn't work out! Wait until you hear what happened!
