Jane became very tired and fell asleep. Suddenly the conductor woke her up and asked for her ticket. Then he gave her a surprise letter. Jane thought it was exciting to receive mail on the train.
It was from Tina, her pen-friend in Germany, and she started to read: Dear Jane, I am writing to you to tell you how things are in Germany. Right now it is very cold, and there is snow all over. It‘s going to be a white Christmas, and I have wished for a new sledge. My dad and I have bought a Christmas tree and decorated it already with real candles, which our parents will light on Christmas Eve after we have gone to church . Then they will call us from our room, and finally we can unpack our presents. I hope it will be a nice and peaceful Christmas for everyone. Merry Christmas! Wish you were here! Love, Tina The door to her compartment opened, and an old man with a friendly round face and a long white beard came in and took the seat opposite her. His eyes twinkled as he smiled at her and asked," Why are you looking so sad, my child?"
