Christmas Story (2) - Chapter One |
The small town of Lakesville was very quiet, having only about two hundred and fifty residents. It sat in a picture postcard type of area, surrounded by ancient pine trees and lofty mountains. There were only ten streets in the entire town and most of the families who lived there had no children. It was a place where people called "home", but something was missing. The snow started to fall in Lakesville in late October so the town always had a white Christmas.
This was good because it was a time-honored tradition to build snow figures in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Sarah and Tom were two of the few children who lived in this town. They walked to the tiny schoolhouse every day, ready to begin their lessons, taught by Mr. Johnson, the local teacher. Mr. Johnson had arrived at Lakesville, quite by accident one night during a snow storm. Luckily he liked the townspeople and decided to stay to teach the few children who also lived there.
Christmas was fast approaching, and Sarah and Tom wanted this Christmas to be special ; different to other years. This Christmas they would bring the Christmas spirit to the ordinarily dreary town of Lakesville. |
